Home Resources Research Covid-19 Labour Market Implications Report
We are excited to share the results of our study on the COVID-19 Labour Implications for the Alberta Recreation and Parks Industry. The study was completed by SWM Consulting Services and was funded through the Workforce Partnerships Program which is a partnership between the Province of Alberta and the Government of Canada.
Data collection for the study took place in November and December 2022, and included both an online survey (quantitative data) and interviews (qualitative data). The scope intentionally focused on the staffing experiences of those who work in community recreation spaces, which tends to be municipalities and non-profit organizations.
The purpose of this project was to provide the Alberta Recreation & Parks Association (ARPA) and its membership with a snapshot of the staffing situation for recreation and parks organizations in response to the restrictions experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The lessons observed from the experiences of member organizations in this sector can identify strategies and techniques used to support labour market flexibility, a resilient Alberta recreation and parks labour force, and be used to inform future management of human resource decisions in crisis situations.
ARPA will be using the findings to help shape future recreation and parks workforce planning and conversations with our members and stakeholders.
The Alberta Recreation & Parks Association would like to acknowledge the First Nations, the Métis, the Inuit and all of the people across Alberta who share a history and a deep connection with this land. We dedicate ourselves to moving forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in the spirit of reconciliation and collaboration.
