Leadership for Active Communities Awards

The Lieutenant Governor’s Leadership for Active Communities Awards recognize the outstanding contributions of individuals, groups, and organizations that lead transformative efforts to increase citizen participation in active living, recreation, and parks, ultimately fostering healthier people and communities.

These awards honor the legacy of the Honourable Norman Kwong’s honorary patronage of the Alberta Active Communities initiative. The program highlights those who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in creating opportunities for people to be active, engaged, and connected within their communities.

This province-wide awards program celebrates those who:

Create and enhance spaces, places, and opportunities for people to be active and engaged, using recreation and parks as a powerful catalyst for change.
Exemplify the very best of active community leadership.
Engage citizens in planning and decision-making processes that promote active living.
Inspire others to get more active, more often, through leadership and initiative.

Award Criteria

Any Alberta resident, group or corporate entity that is inspirational in engaging the community toward positive outcomes that build a more active community is eligible for nomination.
