Performing Arts Summer Instructor I

These positions are seasonal starting on June 16 with an expected end date of August 26, 2023.

The Performing Arts Instructor I’s work within a team environment to develop and implement creative, age-appropriate Performing Arts programs for Strathcona County. Instructors provide support to the leaders in the areas of drama, dance, video production, and musical theatre.

These positions report to the Performing Arts Programmers at Festival Place. The camps you may support in this position are for summer seasonal camps occurring Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Responsibilities

• Teach and provide positive support and supervision within performing arts summer programs
• Plan performing arts activities/lesson plans and work as a team to provide camp activities
• Assist professional performing artists in providing youth (ages 4 to 17) a clean, safe and positive learning environment
• Provide administrative support to the operation of summer camps (i.e. waivers, pick up/drop forms, camp evaluations, communication with parents, etc.)
• Provide excellent guest service for program participants and the community
• Collaborate and positively interact within a team environment
• Provide safe supervision to participants engaged in programs and ensure health and safety regulations are followed

Qualifications

• Minimum Grade 10 completed and demonstrated experience working with children
• Enrolment in post-secondary education for fine arts, education, recreation, and/or other related degree is an asset
• Experience instructing programs in a group setting is highly desired
• Experience in the areas of performing arts, film making, clowning, or juggling would be an asset
• Leader in Training program would be considered an asset
• Experience and passion in visual arts, fine crafts, and/or recreation would be an asset
• Positive, proven leadership and team-building skills
• Ability to adapt to changing work environments and demands
• Ability to maintain high standards of respect, safety, quality, and cooperation
• Time-management skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
• Outstanding problem solving and communication skills
• Conditions of Employment
• Submission of Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
• Current First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification
• Ability to lift 20lbs. and supply totes as part of the job duties and stand for extended periods of time
• Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.
