The opportunity
Leduc County is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Light Equipment Operator to join our team. Reporting to the Manager – Parks, this exciting opportunity maintains and operates machinery and equipment. As a member of the Parks and Recreation team, the Light Equipment Operator is a key contributor to the achievement of the department’s operational deliverables.

About you

You enjoy working outside, working with your hands and can handle regular physical effort such as lifting, moving or pulling heavy objects on a regular basis. You work well with a team but can prioritize and complete tasks independently.
You know how to operate small equipment such as mowers, weed trimmers and chainsaws or would love to learn how! You are familiar with park maintenance and custodial work such as removing debris, picking up and emptying garbage and cleaning outhouses.

What you will do
After leaving our shop and a drive through the countryside, the Light Equipment operators arrive at one of 13 park sites they maintain. This maintenance includes:
-Cutting grass, trimming or picking weeds, changing garbages, or making our parks a safer place, an attention to detail and appreciation for working outdoors is required.
– Using your diverse skillset, this role utilizes equipment from commercial mowers to chainsaws to hand tools to fix park amenities.
-Contribute to the operation of the department’s park program by performing work and adhering to technical and municipal standards.
-Operate various equipment and machinery for vegetation management of municipal reserves, road right-of-ways, park reserves, and public land.
-Contribute to the Parks’ preventative maintenance programs.
-Provide daily cleaning and maintenance to park amenities, equipment, and grounds.
-Adhere to guidelines as set out in Leduc County’s policies and administrative directives.
-Accountable for working in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code and participation in the Health, Safety and Wellness Program.
-Performs related duties as required and assigned.
What you need to succeed
Must-have
A high school diploma with one (1) year of experience in light equipment and machinery operation and maintenance and a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license.
Nice to have
An agricultural background and/or experience, basic knowledge and experience with hand and power tools, and experience and willingness to use a chainsaw are assets.

We offer a competitive hourly salary of between $19.14 and $24.62. This opportunity is seasonal full-time and is 40 hours per week, 10 hour days, 4 days per week. The position is anticipated to start on April 16, 2024 and will end on or about October 15, 2024.
The office and work is based out of 101-1101 5 St. Nisku, AB.
