Finance and Corporate Services Supervisor

Reporting to the General Manager, the Finance and Corporate Services Supervisor will demonstrate strategic leadership, business, and finance acumen, along with sound judgment. You will have the ability to present complex ideas effectively and have strong negotiation skills. Your core value will be one of building relationships within a diverse setting.

You will have a minimum of 5 years direct finance and supervision experience. A relevant undergraduate degree or diploma is required. You can work independently and possess strong communication, verbal and written skills. Accounting and payroll software experience is a significant asset, along with expert level Excel skills and knowledge of legislative reporting requirements. The successful candidate must provide evidence of current Standard First Aid/CPR/AED certification taken within the last two (2) years and provide a clear criminal record check prior to commencement of employment.

Primary Focus
This is a Senior Level position reporting to the General Manager. The position is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and supervision to the major functional areas of Finance and Corporate Services (Custodial, Information Technology and Lease Holder). The Finance and Corporate Services Supervisor plays a key role in building trusted internal and external relationships, as well as providing leadership with respect to the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre’s (TLC) finance, insurance, and investment functions, financial reporting and annual audits.

Specific Accountabilities
Accounting and Reporting

• Strong expertise in generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), financial reporting and analysis.
• Accounts receivable and payable, journal entries, bank reconciliations, ATM deposits, GST filing, and Receiver General reporting.
• Prepare monthly and annual financial reports.
• Analyze and provide guidance to GM, departments, and board of directors.
• Analyze risks related to financial reporting, revenue, and business processes to ensure internal controls are implemented and monitored with goal to prevent fraud and error.
• Investigate queries from internal and external stakeholders relative to accounts payables/receivables.
• Manage insurance claims and equipment depreciation.
• Payroll backup.
• Knowledge and adherence to legislative requirements, including FOIPP.
• Accurate and complete financial and payroll reporting, including year-end (T4s, LAPP and WCB).

Budgeting and Financial Reporting

• Prepare budgets in conjunction with annual strategic plan.
• Prepare long-term forecasting as requested.
• Ensure annual budget is uploaded to Great Plains.
• Monthly variance analysis is documented for monthly board meetings.
• Annual audit.
• Liaise with Municipal Finance departments.
• Liaise with Supervisors to develop and manage department budgets.

Stakeholder and Strategic Support

• Provide enhanced service and support to internal departments with respect to, but not limited to, planning, budgeting, and queries.
• Develop, attract and manage corporate sponsorships.

Supervisory Management

• Supervise, mentor, coach and train team (Payroll Administrator and Administrative Assistant) inthe achievement of their goals and projects daily and throughout the year.
• Demonstrate a commitment to staff development and skill advancement through trainingopportunities, identifying necessary tools/resources and creating a supportive environment for learning.
• Ensure values align with the TLC’s Mission, Vision and Values and the Strategic Plan.
• Targeted, clear internal communications.

Other Duties

• Understand TLC policies, procedures and standards/requirements.
• Contribute to a positive safety culture by acting in a safe manner at all times, complying withHealth & Safety policies and identifying risks and ensuring health and safety of direct reports.
• Other duties as necessary.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree or diploma in Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration or equivalent, complemented with a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation.
• Minimum 5 years direct finance and supervision experience.
• Ability to work independently, with strong leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Possess strong communication, verbal and written skills.
• Possess exceptional interpersonal skills and relationship building.
• Accounting and payroll software experience.
• Expert level Excel.
• Standard First Aid/CPR-C is required.
• Clear Criminal Record Check is required.
