The Town of Hinton is seeking a Contractor to route set and maintain the bouldering wall at the Dr. Duncan Murray Recreation Centre in Hinton, Alberta [805 Switzer Drive, T7V 1V1].
We’re seeking a one-year arrangement that would have the successful Contractor out quarterly to clean and reset holds on our Bouldering Wall located within the Dr. Duncan Murray Recreation Center.
With the set hours on site being negotiable, you could head out to recreate in the mountains in the morning then come route set in the evening, or whatever arrangement allows you to take advantage of the local and Jasper National Park sporting opportunities.
Expectations:
• The ideal candidate has a demonstrably strong understanding of climbing movement, safety, and the ability to set routes for a variety of age groups and abilities
• The successful Contractor will also
o provide the tools necessary (ladder, drill, PPE) to undertake the scope of work,
o conduct formal pre-use inspections,
o clean, clear, and reset the modular holds on the plyboard climbing walls and Treadwall,
o make recommendations to the Town Representative on the acquisition and retirement of modular holds in the Town’s inventory of 1,650 holds, and
o document all wall servicing and safety checks, providing all documentation to the Town Representative
Requirements:
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Familiarity with Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) standards, in particular Level III Climbing Gym Instructors or Rock Guide equivalent is considered an asset
• Provide the following:
o RCMP Criminal Record Check
o Vulnerable Sector Clearance
o Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License, a satisfactory driver’s abstract, and access to a personal vehicle
o Vehicle Insurance with minimum $2,000,000 liability
***Ability to provide General Contractor Insurance is considered an asset; however, the Town Representative is prepared to offer support in this domain as required.
The successful Contractor must provide proof of qualifications before execution of contract.
This EOI will remain open until a suitable candidate is found; however, the Town is eager to have a new route set by the end of Q1 2024 and therefore may privilege candidates that demonstrate superior availability and/or expedited responsiveness to this EOI.
Any questions/concerns can be addressed to the Town Representative. If you’re interested in this opportunity, forward your climbing resume and cover letter to the Town Representative at:
