About the Position
This key position is responsible for ensuring the proper maintenance of the building and the smooth operation of the facility. This includes responsibility for areas of routine maintenance and building operations, including heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, electrical, mechanical, plumbing systems, pool operations, and general building repairs. The Building Operator is accountable for ensuring safe and efficient mechanical and non-mechanical operations, supporting contractor and project-based requirements, and working towards customer satisfaction. This position works closely and collaboratively with all teams and departments.
Job Type: Full-time Permanent (Salary with benefits)
Work Schedule: 40 hours/week; Wednesday-Saturday (4×10’s)
Specific responsibilities:
• Responsible for routine maintenance, repair, and building operations including but not limited to: heating, cooling, ventilation systems, electrical, mechanical, plumbing systems, pool operations, and renovations.
• Operate the mechanical, electrical and HVAC systems of the facility both manually and through the automated control systems, performing regular building operating system checks.
• Responsible for pool operations and water chemistry; performing regular pool readings, maintaining pool equipment, pool maintenance and adjustments as needed.
• Ensure all work requests are completed according to priority and in a timely manner, managing quality control and work standards with an ongoing goal of superior customer service (for external and internal customers).
• Responsible for safety and housekeeping of all mechanical areas, and all areas of work.
• Snow removal and de-icing of sidewalks.
• Troubleshoot and take corrective action to prevent equipment or system failures.
• Ace as safety and security personnel when required.
• Prepare facility and areas of the facility for special programs, events and services when required, supporting and collaborating with other departments in doing so.
• Administrative work, such as hazard assessments and procedure development, as required.
• Follow all safety requirements of the role as required, acting as a role model for others in safe work practices.
• Other tasks/duties that may change upon request
Qualifications:
• The ideal candidate will have experience and certification in building operations (power engineering), additional experience/certification as a plumber would be a significant asset.
• Required: 2+ years’ experience in facility operations/maintenance in large commercial buildings.
• Required: 4th Class Power Engineer
• Proven experience working collaboratively with Health & Safety teams and safety requirements.
• Proven experience working in an environment focused on public guests/customer service.
• Pool Operator Level 1-2, and/or experience working in an environment with pools is considered a significant asset.
• Training assets: First Aid/CPR, Working at Heights, Lift Training, Confined Space, Ammonia Training
• Strong accountability for results, with proactive thinking, strong initiative, and effective problem-solving skills.
• An effective communicator and collaborator, and highly customer-service oriented.
• Adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity in a challenging and ever-demanding environment.
• Experience in a relevant industry is an asset: recreation, sport, attractions, public facilities, etc.
• Comfort with computers and various software
• Able to provide a clear Criminal Record Check
• Valid Class 5 Drivers license and able to provide a sufficiently clear drivers abstract
