Aquatic Deck Lead

Role:
As an Aquatic Deck Lead, you are responsible for the safety and overall experience of the aquatic facilities. You will oversee the day-to-day and short term operations of Aquatics staff. You will create and connect with our customers, community and employees in ways that are impactful in driving and advancing our cause. You will participate in re-imagining and evolving of the aquatic team’s play based and curriculum based experiences to bring the Gen H Lifestyle to life. You’ll engage with passion and be accountable to the team to help deliver strong results and impact.

As the Team Lead, your goal will be to provide support and leadership to ensure the team operates in a proficient and professional manner; Proving a safe and customer centric experience for our Customers and Employees using our Aquatic facilities.

Responsibilities:

• This role is equivalent to a Head Lifeguard position where you will work in both an on-deck and administrative capacity
• Oversee the daily leadership of the Senior and Junior Lifeguards and instructors on their shifts
• Be a knowledgeable touchpoint for customers about experiences across all areas and reflect in each guest experience in the Aquatics area
• Role model active guarding techniques; including roaming, scanning and bind spot checks
• Hold yourself and the team to a high standard of Safety Supervision and best practices of incident prevention and lifeguard code of conduct as directed by the Lifesaving Society
• Deliver a high sense of urgency, ability to think clearly while handling multiple priorities in emergency situations
• Take the lead and provide day to day direction and support to the Aquatic team both on deck and off deck
• Provide leadership in high stress emergency situations following Emergency Response Procedures in aquatics and provide support to the entire facility in such matters
• Adhere to all training and certifications in accordance with Standard First Aid, National Lifeguard certifications, Swim and Lifesaving Swim Instructor/Examiner and Alberta Health Services Standards & Vivo Aquatic Training
• Ensure employees and customer compliance with safety standards and facility policies and procedures
• Contribute to a safe working environment by adhering to all Vivo Health and Safety requirements
• Participate in exploring, experimenting, and implementing new ways of building play based/ spontaneous experiences as well as social, inclusive, learning environments for the Aquatics area
• Demonstrate upbeat, approachable, and an active personality in order to inspire and provide guests with a sense of self and place to belong
• Build authentic, respectful relationships with guests and all Vivo team members in order to provide the best possible community experience
• Support the Aquatics Manager and Aquatics Coordinator in bridging the gap between front line and administrative staff
• Partake in a variety of administrative duties and projects when required
• Flexibility and ability to guard and teach
• Take a leadership role on deck and in an administrative capacity
• Take ownership over the cleaning, maintenance and operations of the Aquatic facility ensuring duties are completed by the team in a timely manner
• Participate in meetings, professional development activities and facility functions for continuous growth when required
• Collaborate with the other leads and managers to create tools and materials that benefit guests, staff and organizational needs
• Act as a role model of teamwork and provides mentorship leading the energy each shift to create a positive work environment
• Share individual passion and talents to show how you are an advocate of raising healthier generations
• Assist in the running of staff recertification courses and original courses as needed (if Certified)

Qualifications:

• Current National Lifeguard Certification
• Current Swim and Lifesaving Instructor Instructor/Examiner Certification
• A minimum 2 years Lifeguarding experience
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C/AED certifications
• National Lifeguard Instructor certification is considered an asset
• Supervisory experience, Lifesaving Instructor Trainer and First Aid Instructor are considered assets

Shifts and Compensation:
30-40 hours per week
Flexible workdays and varied hours based on facility and department need
Hourly wage – Competitive based on experience and certifications
