Communities ChooseWell is excited to welcome our dear friends and fellow ChooseWell Champions, Elder Edna Desjarlais, Cherilyn Cardinal and Jessica Smith, as they share wisdom on the topic of Indigenous Food Sovereignty in a free webinar on February 24th from 12:00pm-1:00pm MST.
This webinar will feature the story of Edna and Cherilyn’s health initiative in Kikino Métis Settlement, where they have created freely accessible food sustainability and food sovereignty opportunities in their community through a community garden, traditional hunting, and education sessions on food preservation. Learn how culture and traditional ways are being embedded in all their work, how Elders and youth are working together to ensure the transfer and preservation of Traditional Knowledge, and how Edna and Cherilyn are fostering connection and wellness in their community.
Jessica will share some perspective and context on the concept of Indigenous Food Sovereignty, and how Edna and Cherilyn’s initiative is contributing to Food Sovereignty in Kikino.
The Alberta Recreation & Parks Association would like to acknowledge the First Nations, the Métis, the Inuit and all of the people across Alberta who share a history and a deep connection with this land. We dedicate ourselves to moving forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in the spirit of reconciliation and collaboration.
