About the Event

Winter Walk Day is Alberta’s annual celebration of walking, active transportation and getting outside in winter.

Held on the first Wednesday of February, Winter Walk Day encourages Albertans of all ages and abilities to embrace the season, get active and discover the benefits of walking.

Whether you walk to school, take a lunchtime stroll or explore your neighbourhood with friends, every step counts.

ARPA is proud to be carrying forward Winter Walk Day’s legacy and supporting communities in making winter movement part of everyday life.

This winter, step outside. Walk together. And be part of something bigger.

Who can participate? Everyone! Let’s make winter movement a tradition.

  • Schools: Take your students outside for a walk around the school, through the neighbourhood or along a favourite local route.
  • Workplaces: Replace a meeting with a walk, organize a lunchtime stroll or challenge your colleagues to get outside together.
  • Municipalities & Communities: Bring residents together for a community walk and showcase the places that make your community great.
  • Post-Secondary Campuses: Get students, staff and faculty moving between classes or gather for a campus-wide winter walk.
  • Individuals & Families: Grab your boots, bundle up and head outside. Invite a friend, neighbour or family member to join you.

Winter Walk Day is more than one day on the calendar. It is an invitation to rethink how we move through our communities and to discover the benefits of being active outdoors, even when the temperature drops.
