Professional Leadership Award

This award recognizes an individual that has demonstrated outstanding professional leadership in driving strategic change to increase physical activity and active living within their community. The nominee is typically a professional in community-based active living, recreation and parks and has led large-scale initiatives that inspire, engage, and create lasting positive impacts on active community development.

Eligibility

  • The nominee must be an Alberta resident.
  • The nominee must have led significant strategic change that has resulted in increased communities that are active, engaged, and connected.
  • Contributions must be professional in nature, demonstrating leadership in aspects such as planning, facilitation, strategy development or policy development.

Evaluation Criteria – Evaluators will consider:

Strategic Leadership:

The nominee’s role in leading and implementing large-scale change in active living.

Innovation & Impact:

How the nominee has introduced and executed new strategies that have increased community participation in active living.

Engagement & Collaboration:

The nominee’s ability to bring together stakeholders, organizations, and citizens to drive change for active living opportunities.

Sustainability & Legacy:

The lasting solutions that enhance active living, recreation and parks in the community because of their leadership.

Examples of Contributions:

  • Developing and implementing community-wide active living strategies or policies.
  • Leading initiatives that expand access to active living, recreation and parks, particularly for underserved populations.
  • Driving advocacy efforts that result in new or improved recreation facilities, parks, programs, or funding.
  • Establishing partnerships between government, community organizations, and businesses to support active living.
  • Creating professional development or mentorship programs that strengthen leadership in the active living, recreation and parks sector.
