Elected Community Official Award

This award recognizes a local, provincial, federal, or band council elected official who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in advancing active living, recreation and parks as a priority for community well-being. The recipient has played a pivotal role in shaping policies, securing resources, or championing initiatives that enhance active lifestyles and create healthier communities.

Eligibility

  • Open to current or former elected officials who have represented an Alberta constituency at the municipal, provincial, or federal level, or band council.
  • The nominee must have made a significant contribution to the development of active community leadership.
  • Contributions must demonstrate a long-term commitment to active living, recreation and parks that have lasting benefits for active living in the community.

Evaluation Criteria – Evaluators will consider:

Policy & Advocacy Leadership:

The nominee’s role in shaping policies or initiatives that support active living, recreation and parks.

Investment & Resource Allocation:

Efforts to secure funding or resources for active living, recreation and parks programs.

Community Engagement & Partnerships:

How the nominee has worked with stakeholders, organizations, and citizens to advance active living opportunities.

Impact & Legacy:

The lasting solutions to enhance active living, recreation and parks in the community.

Examples of Contributions:

  • Advocating for active living, recreation and parks policies that enhance community access and participation.
  • Securing funding or resources to support recreation infrastructure, programming, or accessibility improvements.
  • Leading or supporting initiatives that encourage physical activity and active lifestyles.
  • Partnering with community organizations to create inclusive and lasting active living opportunities.
  • Championing active living, recreation and parks as a key component of community well-being, economic development, or public health.
