The Auburn Bay Residents Association (ABRA) is seeking an additional reliable and enthusiastic Summer Camp Coordinator experienced in working with children, to bring ABRA summer camps to life. This position will begin April 29, 2024 and will end on August 30, 2024
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Summer Camp Coordinators will work together as a team and be responsible for:
-Planning, organizing, and executing week-long day camps for 8 weeks throughout the summer;
-Executing camp activities in a fun and engaging manner;
-Leading and participating with children during daily camp activities;
-Ensuring the execution and delivery of a safe and enjoyable recreation experience for children of all abilities;
-Adapting activities when needed;
-Communicating with parents before and after camps;
-Providing active supervision and guidance for campers;
-Acting as a role-model to the children;
-Ensuring a safe camp environment (including, but not limited to: regular headcounts of children and ensuring -that counsellors are spread out amongst the children at all times);
-Administrative work for camps (including, but not limited to: responding to emails from parents, inquiries from guests/counsellors, ensuring all camper forms/waivers are accounted for, etc.);
-Supervising Camp Counsellors, including:
-Camps training;
-Ensuring lunch breaks are taken each day;
-Maintaining and fostering a positive working environment.
-Budgeting for camp supplies;
-Making supply runs, when necessary;
-Keeping workspace organized and tidy;
-Camps activity set up/tear down (including both daily setup/clean up and end of year clean up, week of August 26th);
-May also be required to work special events (May 11, 2024, June 22, 2024, July 20, 2024 & August 24, 2024);
-Other duties as reasonably required.
Summer camp staff must be available for all 8 weeks of summer camps (July 2 to August 23, 2024) AND orientation week (April 29 to May 3, 2024).
Qualifications
-At least 1 year of supervisory experience;
-At least 2 years of camp counselling experience;
-Excellent people skills;
-General computer knowledge;
-General knowledge of Microsoft Office programs;
-Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
-Critical thinking and problem solving skills;
-Ability to work with others and take direction;
-Strong conflict management skills;
-Excellent communication & conflict resolution skills;
-Self-starter/ability to take initiative;
-Positive attitude;
-Able to adapt to change;
-Confident in high stress situations;
-Ability to work under pressure;
-Ability to lift up to 25lbs;
-Satisfactory criminal background check;
-Camp coordinating experience is considered an asset;
-CPR & First Aid Certification is an asset.
