Seasonal Parks Operator I
Temporary Full-Time
The Town of Morinville is a growing community on the doorstep of Metro Edmonton. We are currently seeking a temporary full-time Parks Operator I, to join our Infrastructure Services team. Reporting to the Team Lead, Parks the successful incumbent will operate light and heavy-duty equipment and perform related manual labour tasks in a proper and safe manner, which includes snow removal, park maintenance, maintaining grass, equipment. This role involves hands-on training activities and collaborative oversight of duties performed by seasonal staff.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in the assessment of equipment and provide input into equipment purchasing/replacement decisions.
• Support in delivering on-the-job training of seasonal staff.
• Provide oversight, in conjunction with the Team Lead, Parks of job duties performed by seasonal staff.
• Provide feedback on maintenance requirements on Town infrastructure to the Team Lead, Parks.
• Apply equipment specific operation skills, techniques, and procedures in the performance of assigned all‐season maintenance activities related to Parks operations.
• Operate municipal equipment such as ride mowers, hand tools, and sundry equipment and perform assigned work in a safe and responsible manner.
• Perform daily maintenance checks and weekly servicing of all equipment operated to ensure equipment is maintained as outlined in the work procedures.
• Perform maintenance and landscaping on Town owned parks and sports fields including grass cutting, watering and planting Town flowerpots and beds, weed control, trail system maintenance, collection of refuse in parks, walkways, and green spaces, sports field line painting and shale floating as well as assisting with preparations for special events.
• Perform hazard assessments, worksite inspections, safety meetings, and incident investigations.
Requirements:
• High School Diploma (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
• Valid Class 5 Alberta Drivers Licence is required.
• Related experience operating of equipment to support the daily operations of Parks.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Physical ability and dexterity to perform a variety of manual tasks including heavy lifting, squatting, bending, twisting, and climbing (work is performed with exposure to outdoor elements).
• Shifts may vary and this position may be required to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
• Strong and effective oral and written communication skills.
• Outstanding customer service abilities and aptitude for handling interactions with professionalism and respect, both with individuals from within and outside the organization.
• A driving record that reflects observance of traffic laws and safe driving practices.
• The successful candidate is required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Driver’s Abstract Consent.
This position is partially funded by the Canada Summer Jobs grant program and requires applicants to meet the following eligibility:
• applicants must be between 15-30 years of age, and either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred (foreign students are ineligible) and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Compensation/Hours of Work: This position is included within the scope of the Town’s unionized setting (CUPE 2426) with a probationary wage rate starting at $27.00 and is based on a 40-hour work week. The term of work is expected to be from May to August 2024, however, may adjust depending on operational requirements.
