The Opportunity:
We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Programmer to join our team. Reporting to the Team Leader Programs, the Programmer is responsible for:
– Acting as the subject matter expert of Early Learning & Child Care Act and Early Learning & Child Care Regulations.
– Conducting administration of the licensed child care program between Okotoks and the Alberta government.
– Conducting administration of the out of school day programs including day camps and school break camps.
– Ensuring compliance, within our facilities and programs, and provide updates and recommendation to Team Leader where needed.
– Providing care and supervision to participants before & after school.
– Monitoring programs for concerns, risks and opportunities for improvement
– Following attendance/security procedures, maintaining a clean/safe environment per licensing standards, and maintaining accurate records and stats
– Interpreting policies and procedures to parents/caregivers
– Coordinating programs, developing marketing materials, and preparing information
– Participating in program promotions & registrations, parent orientations and open houses as scheduled
– All Programmers will be required to be in-ratio of up to 20 hours a week
– Providing teaching and programming back-up as necessary
– Coaching and mentoring less experienced Town staff and contract instructors as required
– Participating in special projects, all activities associated with Programs & Events business centre; particularly events (Light Up Okotoks, Chilifest, Children’s Parade, etc.) and children’s day camp programming
What You Bring:
– Equivalent to completion of a university (bachelor) degree involving acquisition of an advanced understanding of complex concepts and procedures. This training is often recognized by a degree such as Bachelor of Child Studies, Bachelor of Early Childhood
– Curriculum Studies, Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Social Work or other 4 year postsecondary education considered equivalent.
– Level 3 Early Childhood Educator certification is required where the Programmer’s focus is on programming for Children. – – Level 3 Early Childhood Educator certification is determined by Alberta Child Care Staff Certification Office and usually requires one of the degrees mentioned to be considered. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
– This position is recognized as a position of trust interacting with children and those considered vulnerable persons, as per the Criminal Records Act, a Police Information check that includes a Vulnerable Sector Check will be required.
– Standard First Aid/CPR is required.
– Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and organizational skills required.
– Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and database programs is required
– Moving equipment up to 30 lbs (take down and set up)
– The ability to participate in recreational or sport activities such as skating or swimming as per program content is required.
– The ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays, shift work and split shifts as required
– Good knowledge of community resources and services is an asset
