Recreational opportunities are available in a number of different facilities: a two-sheet ice complex, Skatepark, Aquatic Centre, Splashpark and 350 acres of parks.
The Town of Olds has an opening for a full time Operator I – Parks & Recreation. Reporting to the Supervisor- Sportsplex or Supervisor – Parks depending on the season, the incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of the daily operation and maintenance of the Sportsplex and parks systems. Summer duties include maintaining sports fields, green spaces, trees/shrubs, flower gardens, outdoor facilities, and playgrounds in accordance with Town of Olds policies and applicable legislated standards. During the winter working at the Olds Sportsplex, duties include maintenance of ice surfaces, driving an Olympia Ice Bear, refrigeration plant and HVAC checks, facility maintenance, custodial duties, and sidewalk snow removal at Town of Olds facilities.
Qualifications: Grade 12 or equivalent, a valid Class 5 Alberta drivers license, a valid Standard First Aid/CPR certificate, basic building trade skills related to recreation facility maintenance, and the ability to effectively communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and the public. Candidates with Alberta Association of Recreation Facility Personnel Level 1 Arena Operator course, prior experience with ammonia refrigeration systems, and ice re-surfacer operation and/or Parks and Sports Field courses may be given preference.
The wage range for this position is $27.81 – $31.53. Annual salary based on a 40-hour work week. This position includes health benefits and participation in the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP). Rotational stand-by, weekends, day and night shift work are required. A criminal record check and a current driver’s abstract will be required before an offer of employment is made.
