Duties & Responsibilities:
•Administer effective and efficient operations and maintenance of all parks and recreation infrastructure, buildings, lands, equipment, and programming.
•Evaluate and manage the operational performance of all department functions by providing supervisory direction and leadership to the staff team.
•Work collaboratively with the General Manager to develop and achieve the department’s annual business plan goals and priorities.
•Work collaboratively with the General Manager in the preparation and development of the department’s annual operating and capital budget and department-related municipal bylaws and policies.
•Supervise expenditure control within established policy guidelines and the approved operating and capital budgets.
•Prepare and complete annual performance appraisals for all direct reports.
•Provide Parks, Recreation and Community Services related reports, information and operational advice to the General Manager and other internal departments as needed.
•Prepare and present reports to the Council as needed including department quarterly reports.
•Prepare contracted services and community partnership initiative agreements and supporting documentation.
•Oversee responses to requests for information from landowners, the public and various community stakeholders.
•Foster a working environment focused on continuous improvement and public/customer service.
•Manage the VIC programs and services including customer information services, Trading Post retail and concession services, and the interpretive educational programs.
•Manage the administration of the municipality’s community grant programs.
•Complete review of insurance coverage, facility inspections and risk management issues involving legal liability.
•Participate in workplace safety initiatives and undertake leadership responsibility in relation to the municipal Health and Safety Program.
•Undertake all project management of the department’s approved capital projects including the scheduling, hiring, and managing of any contractors needed.
•Remain well-informed with changing trends within the parks and recreation industry.
•Oversee recruitment and training of personnel with a strong emphasis on safety.
Qualifications:
• Post-Secondary Degree in Parks and Recreation.
• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in a Parks environment.
• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a leadership role.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and presentation abilities.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Strong computer skills and proficient with Microsoft Suite of programs.
• Strong skills in developing plans, reports, and budgets.
• Experience in equipment operation will be considered an asset.
• Provide a Driver’s Abstract.
