The Elders Knowledge Circle Society (EKCS) is seeking an Indigenous thinker, for an Executive level position/ Lead Helper to the Board for the new non-profit. This position is full time and a 1-year contract (with possible extension), beginning May 1st, 2024. Salary is from $80,000 – $100,000 depending on a combination of education and experience with some weekend and evening work. At this time, the position is virtual until such time that an office space is secured.
Working with a new non-profit, the Lead Helper to the Board (Executive Director) will manage the startup of the EKCS in its first year with the support from Elders, while providing day to day governance to part time staff, and contracted projects. The Helper will work with the Elders to build the organization’s strategy and vision, be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the organization including the development of an annual fundraising strategy, and the development of partnerships. They will also serve as a key spokesperson for the organization, articulating its mission, vision, and impact to diverse audiences.
Background:
The Elders’ Knowledge Circle Society (EKCS) emerged from a long-held desire amongst Indigenous Elders in Calgary and area to establish a centralized place of knowledge and wisdom where Elders from different Nations could become a resource that is preserved, protected, and shared to benefit both Indigenous and non-Indigenous groups to advance the spirit and intent of reconciliation. The EKCS has been developed through a parallel process that builds on the principle of ethical space, focusing on developing skills and concepts for paralleling the Indigenous and western systems, influencing the development of Indigenous strategies within community organizations in Calgary and area. It is now operating as a non-profit society.
