Indigenous Summer Student Position – Root for Trees program

Up to 2 temporary full-time positions for up to 5 months intended specifically for IPSS students currently enrolled in an environmental sciences, Forestry/Agriculture, Horticulture/Botany, Biological Sciences, Recreation, Education or a related field

The IPSS Student position is public-facing and key to maintaining the day-to-day operations of the Root for Trees program. This role facilitates volunteer planting events, as well as guides volunteer experiential learning about the City of Edmonton’s urban forest and city-wide Naturalization.
As a core part of the team, you will:
-Develop engaging social media content to raise public awareness of the Root for Trees program
-Assist with the creation of content and review of the City’s Root for Trees related webpages and monthly newsletter- (the Canopy) Respond to citizen inquiries regarding volunteer involvement
-Facilitate fun, inclusive volunteer planting events and deliver quality educational content and activities to audiences of diverse ages, understanding, backgrounds and capabilities
-Assist with volunteer management, event coordination, promotions, and program delivery
-Update Standard Operating Procedures related to Root for Trees program activities
-Perform data analysis, create visualizations, and draft summary reports as required
-Other related duties as required
Qualifications:
-Current enrollment full-time at a post-secondary institution, in an Environmental Science, Forestry/Agriculture, -Horticulture/Botany, Biological Sciences, Recreation, Education or a related field
Assets:
-Experience leading or working with volunteers
-Experience creating engaging social media content
-Plant identification skills and experience in horticulture and/or plant care
-Program planning and promotion through the use of social media
-Using Google Suite including Google Documents, Google Sheets, Google Maps, Google Drive, Google Forms

Conditions of Employment:
-This position will be a combination of working from home and on-site working conditions.
-Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
-Standard First Aid Certification and CPR Level C
Additional Details:
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Tuesday – Saturday, with the ability to work evenings and weekends as required
Salary: $18.067 – $22.361 (Hourly); $37,721.91 – 46,691.38 (Annually)
Start/End Dates: April – August 31
