Equipment Operator 1

Position Summary
The Equipment Operator 1 reports to the Complex Operator and works with colleagues in the Parks, Recreation and Facilities team to provide quality services to internal and external customers. The team’s work will collectively support the Vision of the Town of Ponoka: To be a thriving community with a hometown feel.

This position supports the team by: operating and performing routine maintenance on light mobile equipment; providing routine janitorial and building maintenance duties; operating and maintaining ice making and servicing equipment; operating and maintaining sprayers, mowers, and other equipment used in park and boulevard maintenance; and performing general labourer duties as the need arises.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities
1. Operate and perform routine maintenance on light mobile equipment engaged in public works, parks, and recreation facilities by:
-Following approved operating procedures
-Completing routine equipment maintenance
-Following mandated safety rules and regulations
-Recording maintenance and repairs and complying with maintenance schedules
-Identifying equipment problems and/or potential problems requiring attention

2. Provide routine janitorial and building maintenance duties by:
-Sweeping, mopping, polishing floors
-Cleaning and sanitizing public areas including washrooms, change rooms, etc.
-Completing minor repairs to buildings and equipment
-Painting as required
-Removing snow from walkways
-Controlling weeds and cutting grass

3. Operate and maintain ice making and servicing equipment in the Complex and in outdoor areas as required by:
-Following approved operating procedures
-Completing routine equipment maintenance
-Following mandate safety rules and regulations
-Recording maintenance and repairs and complying with maintenance schedules
-Identifying equipment problems and/or potential problems requiring correction

4. Operate and maintain sprayers, mowers, and other equipment used in park and boulevard maintenance by:
-Following approved operating procedures
-Completing routine equipment maintenance
-Following mandated safety rules and regulations
-Recording maintenance and repairs and complying with maintenance schedules
-Identifying equipment problems and/or potential problems requiring correction
-Trimming trees and shrubs

5. Performing general labourer duties as the need arises by:
-Using hand tools
-Assisting other staff engaged in these activities
-Performing other duties as required

Minimum Requirements
Education
-High school graduation

Experience
-Two years of directly related experience

Other
-Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
-Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
-Class 5 Driver’s License
-Valid Class 3 Operators License with air brake endorsement is preferred

Competencies
General Knowledge of:
-Operation and maintenance of bobcats, tractors, mowers, and other small mobile equipment
-Ice-making and on-going maintenance of ice surfaces
-Grass and tree maintenance
-Safety rules and regulations

Additional Skills:
-Ability to operate and maintain a wide variety of small mobile equipment
-Ability to clean and maintain facilities to an acceptable public use standard
-Ability to perform building maintenance duties
-Ability to work effectively with the public
-Ability to work flexible hours in all kinds of weather

Recruitment

-Salary range: $25.12 to $29.10 per hour
