The Innisfail Curling Club is hiring a Facility Manager / Ice Technician, with the position starting in the 2024-2025 curling season.
The Innisfail Curling Club has a rich curling history within the local community. It has hosted provincial events in the past and has seen members of the club reach provincial, national and world championships.
The Innisfail Curling Club has approximately 200 adult and 50 junior members and is a four-sheet facility with approximately 8 draws during the week. The Club hosts 5-6 bonspiels throughout the season, in addition to rentals, schools and other sanctioned events that may arise.
We are looking for a dynamic individual who can relate to people in the curling community, as well outside of it. The ideal candidate should have a strong commitment to the sport of curling, be outgoing, business-minded and motivated to provide the members and guests with a satisfied and lasting impression of their time in our facility.
The selected candidate will report to the Board of Directors, with the position starting September 15th through to April 15th. This position will include weekdays, evenings, and some weekends. There may also be some work in the summer months when the club is rented out to various organizations.
As Facility Manager / Ice Technician you will ensure the maintenance of the facility and installation and maintenance of the ice for the curling season.
Responsibilities
Facility Manager – duties include but are not limited to:
– Managing the day-to-day operations of the Club:
o Opening and closing of the building
o Responding to building alarms
o Monitoring of e-mails, telephone calls/messages and responding in a timely manner
o Updating the Club website, with league information such as draws / results / standings, Club events, posts and pictures
– Overseeing the fiscal management of the Club:
o Collecting and depositing of all revenue
o Keeping records of all financial decisions
o Making and advising on decisions in the best interest of the Club
– Maintaining a membership database:
o Create a new membership registration file and post the link before each season begins
o Promoting growth in the membership
o Build interest in the growth of the sport
o Work to bring special events and rentals of the Club
o Reporting membership data to Curling Alberta
– Ensuring that the Club is complaint with relevant laws and regulations:
o Point of sale systems, insurance, internet
o Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission license
– Ensure the cleanliness of the building, both inside and outside.
– Assisting Board Members in the planning of the annual curling schedule and bonspiels.
– Create (or assist Board Members) and publish the league draws in a timely manner.
– Attend monthly board meetings with financial / operational reports.
Ice Technician – duties include but are not limited to:
– Previous Ice Technician experience (Level I or II Ice Technician Certification is an asset.)
– Needs to be able to work flexible hours depending on the events, including daytime and evening draws and weekend bonspiels.
– Installation of the ice surface
o Cleaning of the floor, touch up painting, installation of the lines, sealing, hacks logos and flooding of the floor surface
– Preparation and maintenance of high-quality clean ice conditions for league draws, bonspiels and other events in a timely manner.
o Cleaning, pebbling, scraping, clipping, temperature monitoring
o Flooding of the ice surface as needed during the season
o Cleaning of the surfaces adjoining the ice by sweeping, vacuuming, moping, etc.
o Ensure garbage is emptied and stocking supplies as needed.
– All ice making equipment, including the ice plant, are to be monitored and ensure that it is in working condition, by fixing or causing it to be repaired.
– Ensure that the curling rocks are maintained throughout the season.
– Attend monthly board meetings with ice facility reports.
– At end of season, remove the ice surface, clean the floor and surrounding areas, and ensure proper storage of the rocks.
– Able to identify and forecast future needs in small and capital equipment replacement / repair / maintenance.
Salary: Competitive wage based on education and experience.
