Community Recreation Manager

Reporting to the Director the Community Recreation Manager is a member of the Sports Development, Wellness and Culture Department. You are responsible for leadership in the area of community development as it pertains to recreation and culture opportunities, community partnerships and their organizational health, as well as identification of issues, gaps, and opportunities as they relate to recreation and culture. You are also responsible for partnerships with internal departments, other municipalities, community groups, and other levels of government departments and agencies. You develop and administer operating and capital budgets as approved by Council. The position acts as a municipal resource relative to community recreation, services, and facilities. It involves considerable engagement with user groups, community organizations, and the general public. The Manager is expected to have considerable independent judgment, action, and initiative.

Responsibilities

• Staff supervision including recruitment, orientation, training, development, and performance management
• Establish and maintain relationships with community stakeholders including community groups (200+), neighborhood associations, educational institutions, other levels of government, and funding agencies
• Ensure plans and activities related to stakeholder involvement in recreation and culture are coordinated and appropriate linkages and relationships are recognized and developed
• Research, document and report on outcomes and present findings to Committee and Council
• Manage and maintain agreements between non-profit organizations with the City (approx. 100 agreements). Ensure a clear understanding of partnership responsibilities that will substantiate long-term benefits for the community
• Identify opportunities and pursue leads and secure new sport and culture-related events. Provide data reporting on primary deliverables and key performance indicators, such as economic impact, event revenues and expenditures, and service improvements
• Manage the grant funding process for recreation and culture grants administered by the department (approximately $4M annually)
• Oversee public member committee(s), who provide advice on recreation and culture initiatives as well as grant funding.

• Public relations and knowledge of the local community
• Understanding and experience with non-profit organizations and Boards
• Municipal Government experience preferred
• Minimum 5 years of experience managing both front-line employees and supervisors
• You will be a proven performer with a University degree and courses specific to recreation, sports administration, business, or public administration with a minimum of five years of experience, particularly in recreation and facility management.

Hours
Monday to Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm; 40 hours per week. Evening and weekend work will be required for events.

Compensation
F band – $48.36 per hour

You will need to have a class 5 Driver’s License and possess a clean Criminal Record Check.
