CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
2023 marks Trico Centre’s 40th anniversary. Since 1983, we’ve provided a space for Calgarians to move, play and create community. Our management team and Board of Directors are excited to plan the next 40 years of serving the communities of South Calgary, and we’re hiring a Chief Executive Officer to drive our path forward.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer is accountable for the successful operation of Trico Centre and acts as the liaison between Management and the Board to ensure that our organization’s needs are met to best serve the community. The Chief Executive Officer will be responsible for leading the evolution of our board structure and focus, with the objective of establishing a new set of by-laws in May 2024. The successful candidate will also play a critical role in building fund development as an ongoing revenue source to support Trico Centre’s mission as a not-for-profit, and to prepare for a major facility expansion by the end of the decade.
Responsibilities:
Fund Development, Government, and External Relations
•Establish Trico Centre’s in-house fund development capability, driving efforts to secure financial support from corporate, individual, government, and philanthropic sources to fulfill our mission and vision.
•Establish strong relationships with all levels of government to seek sponsorship for capital and expansion funding, and influence policy that moves forward sport, recreation, and child/youth programming in Calgary.
•Network with Executives of recreation facilities in the Calgary region to share best practices and determine how to move forward collective wellness goals.
Facility Expansion
•Serve as Chief Storyteller – leverage marketing resources, communication skills and a variety of media channels to articulate and share the compelling story of Trico Centre’s 2030 expansion that will attract required the required capital for the campaign.
•Drive the resourcing and advancement of the planning, design, and financing phases of facility expansion.
•Build an ad-hoc facility expansion committee of the board, leveraging the skills and expertise of recruited members to provide oversight and advice on all phases of construction.
Governance
•Lead the evolution of Trico Centre’s volunteer Board of Directors from operations-focused to strategy-focused, with the objective of revising and successfully passing new by-laws at the May 2024 AGM.
•Facilitate the establishment and effective operation of Board Committees (i.e., Finance, Fund Development, Facility Expansion, Governance, Community Engagement) with specific terms of reference and objectives that are focused on Trico Centre’s strategic priorities.
•Serve as a key member of the Executive Committee of the Board.
•Work with the Board President to structure board meetings and committee work in a way that will maximize the value that Board Members and provide to Trico Centre.
•Using a combination of job posting and networking, source new board members who have skills, abilities and contacts that will strengthen the governance and expansion of Trico Centre.
Operations Support
•Provide strategic oversight to Trico Centre’s operations leadership team and drive accountability for the attainment of strategic targets.
•Support, monitor and steward our unique, world-class culture of belonging, safety and support for staff, members, and guests.
•Work with operations leadership to develop an effective monthly/quarterly financial reporting process that provides valuable insight for internal change and facilitates strategic reporting to Trico Centre’s board of directors.
Qualifications:
•Minimum of 7 years of senior leadership experience.
•Org Transformation Skills – Strategic-minded with the ability to develop and influence volunteers and staff to move from current to future state.
•Demonstrated ability to lead large diverse groups in a dynamic environment.
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, fostering strong relationships with employees, government stakeholders, existing and potential donors, facility guests and the community.
•Business-focused, with proficiency in financial management, budgeting, fund development strategies, and experience developing workforce solutions based on business goals.
•Knowledgeable about regulatory compliance and health and safety standards.
•The successful candidate will be required to complete a vulnerable sector Police Check
Compensation
The annual target salary range for this position is $130 – 160k commensurate with experience. Rewards include a competitive benefits package and KPI driven bonus plan.
