The Assistant Recreation Programmer provides supervision and support to Recreation, Parks and Culture programs and services to exceed guest expectations through quality service and meeting community needs. Strathcona County’s Cultural facilities are in Sherwood Park and include Smeltzer House Centre for Arts and Culture, Festival Place and Gallery @ 501. The Assistant Recreation Programmer is based at Smeltzer House where Visual Arts programs in pottery, glass fusing and other arts-based media are the focus.
Responsibilities:
– Work with the Recreation Programmer to supervise and support program operations and staff, support financial processes (Oracle), create schedules and checklists and maintain digital and physical records
– Data input, reporting and tracking within recreation software (Intelli Manager and When2work).
– Actively engage program and facility guests, assist with forms collection, support surveys and feedback collection, support registration process and provide excellent customer service.
– Perform work as part of a team, network, contribute and attend meetings
– Support OHS training and document submission for new and current instructors
– Track instructor qualifications and book training as needed
– Support Culture Program team to provide input for growth and improved services, support team tasks and provide onsite program support at all Culture facilities as needed
– Supply ordering, delivery and inventory considering program budgets, preventative maintenance programs, and equipment lifecycle
– Assist with studio operations working with staff to support facility operation and OHS processes.
– Assist in promoting and cross-marketing recreation programs and services through the department’s marketing strategy and resources to ensure maximum participation and revenue generation
Qualifications and Skills
– Excellent leadership and team building skills, with proven ability to maintain high standards of safety, quality and cooperation
– Ability to work independently on a team, and in a variety of environments
– Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
– Subject matter expertise in Visual Arts and/or Cultural Programming
– Proficient knowledge of working with ceramics, glass and arts-based media is preferred.
– Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Word, and scheduling software, and knowledge of safe work practices
– Strong verbal and written communication skills, including excellent customer service and public relation abilities
– The ability to meet various deadlines in a constantly changing service environment
– Minimum of a diploma (degree preferred) in Visual Arts or related field, with a minimum of one year of related experience
– One year of supervisory or leadership experience preferred
– Experience working within Arts and Culture in a teaching, volunteering, or coaching role considered an asset
– Web-based scheduling experience is an asset
– HIGH FIVE® principles of healthy child development is an asset
Conditions of Employment
– Submission of a Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
– Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
– This position is part-time, 25 hours per week. Hours are scheduled and performed Tuesday – Friday, or Monday – Friday (negotiable).
– Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties, lift 20lbs, and stand/walk for extended periods of time
– Current Standard First Aid/CPR certification
