Your Opportunity
The main purpose of this job is Supervising the Eastlink Centre and Grande Prairie Outdoor Pool aquatic staff in the delivery of all Aquatic programs and services within the dynamic, fast paced, and robust Aquatic’s team for the City of Grande Prairie. This position is also required to support aquatic programming, with regards to business planning, quality assurance and customer service requirements. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Aquatics department by ensuring all staff have the skills and resources necessary to carry out the multi-faced roles in the Aquatics department.
• Strategic planning in programming and recreation of Aquatics throughout the City of Grande Prairie.
• Scheduling of all Aquatic staff based on operational need and legislated requirements.
• Developing and managing budgets for aquatic operations, including expenses for staffing, programs, maintenance, supplies, and equipment.
• Training and orientation of staff on safety procedures, protocols, service excellence and best practices.
• Communicates and looks for new strategies for ongoing efficiencies.
• Organizing the on boarding of certified, qualified aquatics staff including resume selection, interviews, and preparing hiring packages.
• Developing and implementing emergency response plans, conducting regular drills, and ensuring staff are trained and equipped to respond effectively to emergencies, such as drownings, injuries, or chemical spills.
• Engaging with the local community to promote pool programs and events, foster partnerships with schools, community groups, and other organizations, and gather feedback to improve services.
• Maintaining accurate records of pool usage, incidents, maintenance activities, and water quality test results.
• Generating reports as required by regulatory agencies and management.
• Providing excellent customer service to patrons, addressing inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a timely and professional manner.
• Performance management of staff, including articulating departmental expectations of all staff.
• Team development by identifying staff strengths and encouraging growth.
• The successful candidate in this role will also work in collaboration with other supervisors and managers of the Community Knowledge Campus leadership team.
Your Key Responsibilities
Improved service delivery, safety assurance, and customer satisfaction is achieved through a dual Supervisor leadership approach, which entails but is not limited to the oversight of Aquatics operations at the Eastlink Centre and Grande Prairie Outdoor Pool, as well as supporting all aquatic programs and services within the Aquatics department for the City of Grande Prairie.
Furthermore, the dual Supervisor unit will:
• Execute the strategic planning and programming development of aquatic programs and aquatic recreation activities citywide. This includes assessing community needs, identifying trends, and designing innovative programs to meet diverse interests and demographics.
• Work with the Aquatics Scheduler to create and maintain schedules for all unionized staff, ensuring coverage based on operational requirements and compliance with legislated regulations, such as staffing ratios, certification standards, and the local 787 collective agreement.
• Conduct comprehensive training and orientation sessions for new staff, focusing on safety procedures, protocols, service excellence, and best practices in aquatic operations. Continuously update training materials to reflect industry standards and regulatory changes.
• Actively seek opportunities for ongoing efficiencies and improvements in Aquatics operations. Regularly communicate with staff to gather feedback and ideas for enhancing service delivery, cost-effectiveness, and customer satisfaction.
• Leading the recruitment process for certified and qualified Aquatics staff, from resume selection and interviews to preparing hiring packages. Ensure a smooth on-boarding experience for new hires, providing necessary resources and support to facilitate their integration into the team.
• Providing leadership and support to Aquatic staff during emergency situations, including rescues, traumatic incidents, emergency response plans, chemical spills, and dealing with difficult patrons. This includes stepping in during the Manager’s absence to manage crisis situations effectively.
• Implement performance management processes for Aquatic staff, including regular one-on-one meetings, performance plans, and formal performance reviews. Set clear expectations, provide constructive feedback, and recognize and reward exemplary performance.
• Defines and outlines the daily duties and expectations of Aquatic staff, ensuring smooth and efficient operations across all facilities and programs. Monitor performance metrics and take corrective action as needed to maintain high standards of service delivery.
• Identify and leverage staff strengths, talents, and areas for growth through ongoing assessment and feedback. Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development, providing opportunities for skill enhancement and career advancement within the Aquatics department.
• Overseeing adherence to local, provincial, and federal regulations governing pool operations, including safety standards, water quality regulations, and health codes.
• Overseeing the maintenance and repair of pool equipment, facilities, and surrounding areas to ensure safe and clean conditions for patrons.
• Monitoring and maintaining proper water chemistry levels, including pH, chlorine, and alkalinity, to ensure a safe and comfortable swimming environment.
• Developing and managing budgets for pool operations, including expenses for staffing, maintenance, supplies, and equipment.
You Will Need
This Education & Experience
• 5 + years Aquatic experience
• 5 + years Supervisory and leadership experience
• Previous Supervisory experience with a large part-time complement of staff
• Leadership experience in a unionized environment
• Experience with governing body – Lifesaving Society
• Current Standard First Aid/CPR – or equivalent
• Advanced Lifeguarding/Leadership Courses
• Certificate / Diploma in Aquatic Administration or Operation is considered an asset
• Certificate / Diploma in Recreation Management is considered an asset
• Municipal leadership experience is considered an asset

The standard workweek consists of an average of 40 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.

Salary
Starting Salary $43.24 per hour as per the Out-of-Scope Agreement. (Band E, Entry Step)
