Aquatic Program Coordinator

Role:
As an Aquatics Program Coordinator, you are responsible for the safety and overall experience of the aquatic facilities. You will oversee the daily to one year out operations of all aquatics staff and the aquatics department, developing a schedule that is published in a timely manner and follows Alberta Labor Standards. You will assist in the development and programming creation of lessons and lesson assignments and be required to work within the Avocado program software. You will create and connect with our customers, community and employees in ways that are impactful in driving and advancing our cause. You will participate in re-imagining and evolving the aquatic team’s play-based and curriculum-based experiences. You’ll engage with passion and be accountable to the team to help deliver strong results and impact.

As a coordinator your goal will be to provide support and leadership to ensure the team operates in a proficient and professional manner, proving a safe and customer centric experience for our Customers and Employees using our Aquatic facilities and within aquatic programs.

Reports to: Aquatic Manager

Responsibilities:

• Be a knowledgeable touchpoint for customers about experiences across all areas and reflect in each guest experience in the Aquatics area
• Role model teaching techniques; including songs, games, safety formations and challenging behaviour management strategies
• Be an administrative point of contact for those participating in lessons
• Ensure the smooth start up and continued running of lessons
• Hold yourself and the team to a high standard of Safety Supervision and best practices of incident prevention as directed by the Lifesaving Society
• Deliver a high sense of urgency, ability to think clearly while handling multiple priorities in emergency situations
• Take the lead and provide day to day direction and support to the Aquatic team
• Provide leadership in high stress emergency situations following Emergency Response Procedures in aquatics and provide support to the entire facility in such matters
• Adhere to all training and certifications in accordance with Standard First Aid, National Lifeguard certifications, Swim and Lifesaving Swim Instructor/Examiner and Alberta Health Services Standards & Vivo Aquatic Training
• Ensure employees and customer compliance with safety standards and facility policies and procedures
• Contribute to a safe working environment by adhering to all Vivo Health and Safety requirements
• Participate in exploring, experimenting, and implementing new ways of building play based/ spontaneous experiences as well as social, inclusive, learning environments for the Aquatics area
• Assign instructors to banks of lessons with the understanding of their strengths and development areas
• Demonstrate upbeat, approachable, and an active personality in order to inspire and provide guests with a sense of self and place to belong
• Participate in the interviewing, hiring and training processes for the department
• Build authentic, respectful relationships with guests and all Vivo team members in order to provide the best possible community experience.
• Supports the Aquatics Manager in programming and in general tasks
• Ensure correct student level placements during first week of lessons
• Train, run and evaluate swim assessments
• Partake in a variety of administrative duties and projects
• Flexibility and ability to guard and/or teach when required
• Monitor change in shifts and ensure adequate shift coverage is obtained
• Staff scheduling in collaboration with the Aquatics manager
• Take ownership over the cleaning, maintenance and operations of the Aquatic facility ensuring duties are completed by the team in a timely manner (before and after lesson equipment prep and tidy)
• Participate in meetings, professional development activities and facility functions for continuous growth
• Support in pay role management
• Collaborate with the other leads and managers to create tools and materials that benefit guests, staff and organizational needs
• Assist in designing and running effective training to continuously develop staff
• Act as a role model of teamwork and provides mentorship leading the energy each shift to create a positive work environment
• Share individual passion and talents to show how you are an advocate of raising healthier generations
• Ensure staff and self certification tracking is updated as needed and identify when staff members of the team have certifications coming due
• Assist in the running of staff recertification courses and original courses as needed
• Collaborate with the Aquatics Manager and Aquatics Team Lead in developing a staff schedule that spans on a per session basis and follows labour laws with regard to guarding, teaching and other departments if staff are span across the facility
• Guard and sub in for lessons when required
• Demonstrates the ability to work in a face paced environment that can at times be physically demanding

Qualifications:

• Current National Lifeguard Certification
• Swim and Lifesaving Instructor/Examiner Certification
• A minimum 2 years Lifeguarding and teaching experience
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C/AED certifications
• Experience using Avocado software or equivalent is required
• Supervisory experience is preferred
• Additional certifications including National Lifeguard Instructor, Lifesaving Instructor Trainer and First Aid Instructor are considered assets

Shifts and Compensation:
40 hours per week
Flexible workdays and varied hours based on facility and department need
Eligible for a salary-based position with comprehensive benefit package after 3 months
