Reporting to the Aquatic Centre Manager, the Aquatic Centre Supervisor is responsible for assisting in the leadership and overall operation and maintenance of the Aquatic Centre and its programs and services. The Aquatic Centre Supervisor will ensure that the facility is run in accordance and compliance with Town operational policies and standards and Provincial Health Regulations, to maximize efficiency and offer aquatic opportunities to all residents in the area.
The Employee may be required on an ongoing basis to attend applicable training, workshops, seminars and courses at the discretion of the Employer in order to facilitate job knowledge and performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Facility/Operations
1. Work with the Manager to set direction for facility planning, implementing, and managing recreational and instructional programs, which would include water safety and swimming lessons, aquatic leadership, aquatic fitness, and public leisure opportunities.
2. Assist in the maintenance and operation of the R.E. Walter Memorial Aquatic Centre facility in accordance with the policies, procedures & guidelines set forth by the Public Health Department, The Lifesaving Society, The Canadian Red Cross, OH&S and the Town of High Level, to provide a safe and secure environment for patrons and aquatic team.
3. Maintain an effective work relationship with other key personnel, including, but not exclusive to: all Town of High Level staff and departments, community groups, school staff, business community, etc.
4. Responsible for weekly water samples and daily water tests, ensuring water quality adheres to Public Health Standards.
5. Accurate and ongoing compilation of pool usage records, pool maintenance records, water quality records, aquatic program registration and records, incident reports, facility rentals, and equipment servicing.
6. Pool sanitization and maintenance duties, ensuring all procedures relative to water purification, cleanliness and safety are effectively carried out. Including chemical additions and water balancing.
7. Working with maintenance staff, ensure mechanical systems are checked regularly and any maintenance repair work is completed to allow for continuous safe and efficient operation taking into consideration the Aquatic Centre budget.
8. Working with the maintenance staff to plan, schedule and prepare outside services and contractors as well as for the annual maintenance shut down.
B. Programming/Service
1. Assess Community Aquatic needs, explore new opportunities, research program trends, and implement appropriate community aquatic programs.
2. In collaboration with the pool manager, complete pool schedule, staff work schedules, and program scheduling based on staff availability.
3. Be sensitive to public expectations and strive to deliver efficient & effective programs.
4. Instruct lessons, including but not exclusive to, WSI, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, Adult Lessons and NLS training. Perform Lifeguarding duties as required.
C. Administration/Human Resources
1. Assists the pool manager with training and evaluating all staff in accordance with the Town of High Level’s policies and procedures and ensuring human resource polices are followed. (Evaluations, Disciplinary Action, grievance etc.).
2. Assist in the training and development of qualified and competent aquatics team, including follow up to ensure all staff certifications are current.
3. Supports and provides a high degree of customer service. Ensures the development and continuance of good public relations between the aquatic team the public and the aquatic center user groups.
4. Responds to incoming calls, visitors, handles routine correspondence, customer requests and complaints and provides information to the public.
5. Completes all booking request and rental agreements.
6. Promotes and advertise all activities and programs.
7. Attend workshops, training and conferences as required.
8. Perform other related duties as required or assigned by the Aquatic Centre Manager.
D. Budget/Finance
1. Provides feedback for the annual operational budget and participates in capital project planning.
2. Assist with the purchasing and inventory control of supplies and materials required for operation and maintenance of the Aquatic Centre within the aquatic center’s council approved budget and expenditures
3. Assist with the accurate & timely completion of all routine administrative functions and other related assignments and tasks (i.e., bank deposits, time sheets, invoicing, monthly reports etc.).
E. Health and Safety
1. Ensure the staff and facility function in a safe manner by assisting in conducting monthly safety meetings; participating in quarterly safety meetings; conducting monthly safety inspections; yearly job hazard analysis review; develop, implementation and review of safety policies and safe work procedures, and helping with completing all required documentation.
2. Assist as directed in the Emergency Management Plan.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
The minimum level of education required to perform these responsibilities are:
– Required (must be current) Preferred Additional Certifications
– Intermediate First Aid CER-C & AED National Lifeguard Trainer
– National Lifeguard – Pool Lifesaving Trainer
– National Lifeguard Instructor / Exam Pool First Aid Trainer
– Swim Instructor / Examiner Swim Trainer
– Lifesaving Instructor / Examiner Pool Operator 2
– Lifesaving CPR Instructor / Examiner
– Pool Operator 1
– Valid Glass 5 Driver’s License
– Minimum completion of a Grade 12 diploma
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
The minimum experience required to perform these responsibilities are:
• Two to five years’ supervisory and leadership experience
• Experience planning and implementing programs in a municipal setting.
• Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office Suite of computer programs, including but not limited to Univerusrec and WhentoWork.
• Related training/experience within an Aquatic Centre or related recreation-based setting.
• C.Y.I.M. check and criminal record check.

• Lifesaving Society Standards.
• Provincial Guidelines for Operation of Aquatic facilities.

The Aquatic Centre Supervisor will frequently have contact with the following:
• General Public of all ages.
• Town of High Level staff, specifically the Sports Complex Manager, Facilities Maintenance personnel, and the Director of Community Services.
• Local and Regional schools, community groups and organizations.
• Aquatic Centre vendors.
ENVIRONMENT
Features of work which create unusual demands, or which create physical and/or mental stress are:
• Split shifts, early mornings, evening & weekend work.
• Some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require basic safety precautions
• High heat & humidity.
• Variable Noise Levels throughout the day
• Moderate to Heavy Lifting
• Moderate physical activity, long periods of standing and or walking.
