Event Theme

The theme for the 2024 Parks Forum is: Parks: Agents of Change.

Society is facing numerous challenges from global pandemics, the climate crisis, social injustices, and the important journey of Truth and Reconciliation. Parks offer an opportunity to reflect on and move forward on solving these complex and important problems facing Albertans, Canadians, and communities around the world. The 2024 Alberta Park Forum is focused on how our park systems can be solutions and provide diverse ways to serve and support communities. This event will bring together the diverse parks sector to drive parks forwards as agents of change.

Why Attend?

  • Engage in insightful discussions with industry experts.
  • Connect with professionals, researchers, students, and fellow park enthusiasts.
  • Explore new ideas, innovative practices, and emerging trends in the field of parks, protected areas, and open spaces.

About Parks Forum

The 2024 Parks Forum will be held from March 21-23, 2024 at the Coast Canmore Hotel and Conference Centre. This educational and networking event will attract up to 100 delegates from across Western Canada.

The Parks Forum series was inspired by the incredible diversity of Alberta’s parks, landscapes and open spaces, and is hosted by the Alberta Parks and Recreation Association (ARPA). As a result, the Forum has been programmed for and attended by a broad cross section of participants from Alberta’s three major park providers (municipal, provincial and national) as well as a variety of key partners, educators and students.

The primary objectives of the Parks Forum are:

  • To provide educational and development opportunities that include the exchange of views, sharing of experiences and learning of new and unique approaches to planning and managing parks and open spaces;
  • To develop ideas, concepts and proposals for realistic interaction and collaboration on issues and initiatives of common interest and concern; and,
  • To explore the connections, benefits and roles that parks provide in today’s ever-changing society.
