Overview
The Alberta Recreation & Parks Association (ARPA) has signed an agreement with the Government of Alberta, Ministry of Culture and Status of Women, to oversee the planning, oversight, and implementation of the 2022 Alberta Recreation Survey. This will be the first time this work has been coordinated with an organization outside of the Government of Alberta. We are very excited to support this work and lead the recreation and parks sector with better understanding of the needs of all Albertans.
The Public Opinion Survey on Recreation was initially developed in 1981 and has been undertaken roughly every four years since this time. The last survey was conducted in 2017.
Information from the survey is used to assess trends on a longitudinal basis; forecast future demand; and aid the recreation sector in targeting and marketing its services. Data sets from the 2000, 2004, 2008, 2013 and 2017 Alberta Recreation Survey are available on the Open Government Portal.
The objective of the 2022 Alberta Recreation Survey is to collect current information related to recreation participation patterns of Albertans and the factors which influence their recreation activity choices. A secondary objective is to collect information regarding the impact, changes and implications to household recreation activity due to the COVID pandemic.
