Summer Event Leader
Competition #:  07-2019

What a Leader does:

  • Assists with providing quality summer programs for children/youth.
  • Assists with the implementation and evaluation of a traveling rural theme day, day trips.
  • Be actively involved in all programs and be willing to participate enthusiastically in planned activities.
  • Assists with training and evaluation of volunteers in the JET program.
  • Ensures that all facilities used are kept clean and secure as well as safe for program activities.
  • Ensures that an effective relation with fellow staff, parents, volunteers, and facility attendants is maintained.
  • Maintains accurate records and reports as required by their supervisor (i.e. Accident reports, daily time sheets, program statistics, final program reports, etc.)
  • To attend scheduled staff meetings, complete a mid and final evaluation on self and co-workers.
  • Available to work evenings, and occasional weekends.
  • Attends training sessions and workshops as required.
  • Adhere to applicable responsibilities and accountabilities as outlined in the Sturgeon County Health and Safety Management System.

Job Skills:

  • Must work effectively and efficiently with others with little or no supervision, always be punctual, self-motivated, communicate openly, takes direction well, and responds to public inquiries in a calm and friendly manner. Work is performed within and outside the county. Physical job requirements include: occasional lifting of 30 pounds, sitting and standing for extended periods of time.

What are we looking for?

  • Post-secondary education in recreation, education, or another related field would be an asset.
  • Previous experience working with children/youth in a program setting.
  • Valid first aid certificate
  • Defensive driving certificate.
  • A valid driver’s license with access to a vehicle.
  • An acceptable Drivers Abstract.
  • A clear Criminal Record and Child Welfare Record Check.

NOTE: Applicants must submit at time of application a Commercial Drivers Abstract dated within 30 days of application.  Internal driver evaluations may be conducted prior to hire.

Summer Event Supervisor
Competition #:  08-2019

What a Supervisor does:

Provides quality summer child/youth programs.

  • Plan, implement and evaluate summer programs for children/youth 3 - 17 years of age.
  • Coordinate the advertising and promotion of summer programs, including assistance with summer tabloid and digital media.
  • Supervise Sturgeon County summer staff and volunteers who are on site at programs under your direction.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records on all programs under your direction as well as daily time sheets, budget reports, accident reports, medical forms, petty cash purchases and program reports.
  • Assist Community Development Coordinator with evaluation of summer staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure that effective relations with parents, school staff, volunteers, transportation drivers and facility attendants are maintained.
  • Ensure that all facilities used are kept clean and secure, and that all equipment and supplies are returned.
  • Provide program participants with information pertinent to the programs they are enrolled in.
  • Organize supplies and food for each program.
  • Ensure that final reports for all programs are completed.
  • Update, and maintain procedure manual to ensure it remains current as it relates to these positions.
  • Attend training sessions and workshops as required.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings, complete a mid and final evaluation on self and co-workers.
  • Available to work evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Participate in planning and implementing training for the Summer Events Leaders and J.E.T. volunteers.
  • Adhere to applicable responsibilities and accountabilities as outlined in the Sturgeon County Health and Safety Management System.
  • Other related duties.

Job Skills:

  • Good organizational skills, computer skills and supervisory skills. Must work effectively and efficiently with others with little or no supervision, always be punctual, communicate openly, take direction well, self-motivated, and responds to public inquiries in a calm and friendly manner. Work is performed within the county. Comfort and ability to drive in rural and urban settings is required. Physical job requirements include: occasional lifting of 30 pounds, sitting and standing for extended periods of time.

What are we looking for?

  • Post-secondary education in recreation, education or other related field and previous experience working with children and/or youth in a program setting.
  • Valid first aid certificate and defensive driving certificate is required prior to start of employment.
  •  A valid class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required.  Willingness and ability to apply for a class 4 license would be an asset.
  • An acceptable Drivers Abstract.
  • A clear Criminal Record and Child Welfare Record Check is required.
