Job: Aquatic Fitness Instructor - City of Edmonton

The Community and Recreation Facilities Branch is looking for energetic, responsible and qualified individuals to work as Aquatic Fitness Instructors at various recreation and leisure centres throughout the City of Edmonton. Classes include Shallow Water, Deep Water, Aquabox, Karataquatics, Water Works, Tethering and Boot Camp, with new classes being added!

You will be responsible to:

  • Design and lead aquatic group fitness classes, delivering excellence in service and programming
  • Evaluate and adjust aquatic fitness programs based on participant age, ability and fitness level
  • Demonstrate correct exercise methods and proper use of exercise equipment
  • Maintain a safe environment for customers and staff in and around the water

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Possession of a current leadership certification specializing in aquatics as recognized by AFLCA (Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association) or CALA (Canadian Aquafitness Leaders Alliance) or WaterART
  • Candidates with a YMCA Aquatic Fitness Certification may be able to challenge the AFLCA exam (please contact Loree Biensch)
  • Must be able to swim a minimum of 25 metres (shallow and deep end)
  • Additional fitness certifications are an asset
  • Must be willing to complete the applicable training programs
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques employed in aquatic fitness instruction
  • Experience leading a variety of aquatic classes is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills; must be able to deliver instructions clearly and effectively
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to motivate and encourage participants
  • Ability to recognize emergency situations and react accordingly
  • Valid CPR Level C is a requirement of this position
  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
  • Applicants may be required to complete a swim test

Hours of Work: 2- 30 hours per week (1 - 15 classes). Evening and weekend availability is required

Salary: $16.481 - $27.469 (Hourly). Please note that a minimum of 2 hours is paid for each 1 hour class
