The Rick Curtis HIGH FIVE® Award, presented in honor of former Alberta Recreation & Parks Association (ARPA) CEO Rick Curtis, recognizes organizations that have embraced the principles of HIGH FIVE® in their programs and practices. Rick Curtis strongly believed in the importance of recreation and sport in the healthy development of children and youth, and HIGH FIVE® was among those initiatives.

The ARPA Awards and Scholarships Committee with representation from all aspects of the recreation and parks sector and across the province will select the award recipient. The committee will evaluate the nominations by rating:
The nominated organization must demonstrate a commitment to implementing the principles of HIGH FIVE® in their programs and practices with children. These principles include the importance of a caring adult, the opportunity to make friends, the opportunity to play, the opportunity to master skills, and the opportunity to participate.
The nominated organization should have a system in place to ensure the quality of their programs for children, in line with the HIGH FIVE® quality assurance framework. This may include staff training, program evaluation, and continuous improvement efforts.
The nominated organization should have a positive impact on the community through their programs for children, contributing to the healthy development and well-being of youth and families.
Successful nominees will demonstrate leadership and advocacy in promoting the importance of quality recreation and sport programs for children, advocating for the adoption of HIGH FIVE® principles in the broader community.
The Alberta Recreation & Parks Association presents the award during the ARPA Conference & Energize Workshop.
