Program: Diversity

Overview

Diversity

The Active Living Alliance for Canadians with a Disability (ALACD) is all about promoting inclusion and active living lifestyles for Canadians with a disability through communication and collaboration. This page is meant to be a resource for Albertans with a disability to connect and to find information. It is also meant as a resource for service providers, families, and caregivers.

The Alberta Recreation and Parks Association is proud to be a key partner in the Alberta Initiative of the ALACD. ARPA provides support and website hosting through a strategic partnership with the Alliance. Together, we connect individuals and groups with programs and services.

ALACD, a national non-profit organization, was established in 1989 to motivate and assist Canadians with a disability to become more physically active. It is built on an alliance of individuals, agencies, and national associations that facilitates and coordinates partnerships among the members of its network. There are over 100 partners and a growing network of close to a half million organizations who share the vision of a healthier, active Canadian disability population. Alberta is proud to be one of the provincial representatives with its own committee

Vision

Full and equitable access to active living opportunities for all Albertans with disabilities.

Mission

To promote inclusion and active living lifestyles of Albertans with disabilities by facilitating communication and collaboration among organizations, agencies and individuals.

We continually strive to expand and diversify our organizing committee and provincial network with new volunteers. Some of our current volunteers include individuals within the health, sport, fitness, education, and therapeutic recreation fields who actively participate as members of our provincial committee and provide input and feedback into yearly initiatives.

Committee meetings occur two to four times each year in a central location (typically held in Edmonton, Red Deer, or Calgary).
