The Alberta Recreation and Parks Association is pleased to provide a variety of training opportunities to assist its members in furthering their professional development.

Upcoming ACE Communities Training Opportunities

As the result of sponsorship by Rural Alberta’s Development Fund, Encana, and Cenovus Energy, ARPA through its ACE Communities initiative is offering free on-line training for anyone interested in community building, using technology to increase community capacity, learning more about leisure education, increasing facilitation skills, expanding community leadership knowledge, and learning about how to become a more active, creative, and engaged community.

Building Leadership Capacity

Building Leadership Capacity is a professional development course offered by ARPA. This intensive two-day workshop employs the leadership framework of James Kouzes and Barry Posner, authors of "The Leadership Challenge."

The course has been designed for recreation and parks practitioners in Alberta who are eager to develop the leadership skills necessary to inspire and activate others within their communities, as well as to advance professionally.

Canadian Playground Safety Institute

The Canadian Parks and Recreation Association (CPRA) currently offers a CPRA Canadian Certified Playground Inspector Certification program to individuals who successfully complete the Theory and Practical training courses through the Canadian Playground Safety Institute (CPSI).

This program will help individuals understand CAN/CSA Z614 “Children’s Playspaces and Equipment” and to learn how to conduct a hands-on inspection / audit of their playspace.

Who should take CPSI Training?

This training is designed for owner/operators, health inspectors, daycare staff, maintenance/public works staff for schools, municipalities, housing complexes and other areas that contain public playspaces, private inspectors and contractors, manufacturers, installers, parks staff, insurance agents, etc.
