Awards & Scholarships: Lieutenant Governor’s Leadership for Active Commmunities Awards

Lieutenant Governor Awards logo

The biennial Lieutenant Governor’s Leadership for Active Communities Award program recognizes the achievements of the individuals and groups that are leading their communities in strategic change that results in increased citizen engagement and high levels of participation in recreation, sport and active living leading to healthier people and communities.

The most recent awards ceremony took place May 26, 2011 in Edmonton at the TELUS World of Science. Read more about the award recipients and honourable mentions in the official news release.

Origin of the Award Program

This awards program initiated by the Honourable Norman L. Kwong will be a legacy of his role as Lieutenant Governor of Alberta (2005-2010) and underscores his belief in the importance of being active throughout one’s life.

The inaugural awards were presented by the Honourable Norman L. Kwong at a gala on May 30th, 2009 at Government House in Edmonton.
